Spiky-Ball-Bowl





Diese herrlichen Gebilde basieren auf der Spiky-Ball-Konstruktion. Die Satellitenkugeln lassen sich in der Größe verändern.

Interessant sind Öffnungen in der Wand der Schale, die sehr massiv wirkt.

Es lohnt sich, alleine dieses eine Fraktalgebilde ohne Änderung der Parameter über verschiedene Kamerapositionen und Zoom-Stufen näher zu untersuchen und zu dokumentieren. Auch die Gradientenwahl ergibt sehr unterschiedliche Effekte. Ich hatte noch nicht die Zeit dazu, sondern habe damals nur ein paar Varianten abgespeichert.

JWF-Ratisbon-Overlays



Some months ago, I tried to overlay fraktal-pictures with photos of regensburg (ratisbon). Which sort of fotos fit to which sort of fractals? I made hundreds of experiments an got a little bit sense, what goes and what won't do.  One thing is sure: the most beautiful photos loose their charm, when you combine it to another artwork. But it was worth the time for experiments. Here are some of the pictures, I did not delete.

4xlinear3d-julia3d tutorial Nr. 2

3. Combination with cylinder

Basis: 4xlinear3d plus julia3d construction.
Now add cylinder (instead of bubble) as a new Transform and try variations.

The basis of the spiky-ball-construction are  4 x linear3d, which triangles are moved in a certain manner. It is not important, if you move the original triangles or the the Post-Transform-Triangles (If you put the button "Post-TF" in the affine-Tab (ore the symbol-button for toggle Post-TF above the main window) you can see the post-transform-triangles instead of the main triangles and work with them.

The spiky-ball now combines this 4xlinear3d with curl3d.  It is not important, if curl3d is the first or the last transformation. Important is: 4xlinear3D plus curl3d. Now, let's try new things.

1.) If you take julia3d instead of curl3d, you get a basis for some other  variations. I have no name for this, I just call it 4xlinear3d-julia3d-construction.

First, you get simple effect.

It doesnt matter, if the julia3d is the first or the last transform.

With zcone as parameter of "julia3d", it is a little more interesting.



2. Combination with bubble

You can play with values, xaos, weights, camera-position. But better is, to ADD a new transformation, for example a bubble.

spiky-ball tutorial Nr. 5 - Spiky Dunes



Die Parameter bei Curl3D zeigen standardmäßig nur den cx-Wert an, der wie immer auf 0 steht. Woher kommt aber dieses ganz andere Erscheinungsbild - aus den Kugeln wurde eine Sanddünenfläche!? Ihr müsst auf cz umschalten, dort ist das Geheminis. Der Änderung des cz-Wertes kann dazu führen, dass dieser Effekt entsteht.

To make spiky-ball-based UFOs, you have to add to the basic spiky-ball-construction als new Transform:

JULIA3D + ZTRANSLATE

The essential is the combination with ztranslate



The ztranslate must be negative.  Play with the ztranslate-value.

Based on a spiky-ball-construction you can get flames like the following. You just have to add:

JULIA3D.

The hole-effect of the second picture is not done by a zcone etc., but by using the camera-perspective.

spherical3d-bubble with rays - Anleitung

I wanted to give the spherical3d-bubble some rays and tried it with extrude and other transformations. It doesn't help to add a linear3d with extrude als Parameter, or to add extrude to the spherical3d-transforms. I was surprised, that I had to add the extrude-parameter to the ZTRANSLATE-Transformation - then I got good effects. Value of ztranslate: about 0,5

Anleitung auf deutsch: Nimm die Basis für spherical3d-bubble (2x spherical3d + ztranslate, Reihenfolge unwichtig, zweites spherical3d-triangle um 90 Grad gedreht und leicht verschoben) und füge der ztranslate-Transformation noch hinzu: extrude. Wert: ca 0,5 (Muster-Flame siehe am Ende des Artikels).

The spherical3d-bubble (tutorial)

Here ist the explanation to a construction, I call it spherical3d-bubble.

Well, I searched the core of randomly generated flame, called the Slime-Blob, by reducing the transforms, ressetting the triangles, and many try and error.

 And I got the core: 2 x spherical3d + ztranslate.
 



But it is very very important, that you move one of the two spherical3d-Triangles in a certain manner: you have to rotate it with 90 (or 270) degree and to move a little bit away. The best results I had, when I moved the second triangle a little bit down, but so, that the 0-x-axis stayed in line with the 0-y-axis of the first triangle.
